Cathodic Protection Training Course

Module 09

Cathodic protection groundbeds.

Closeness of anodes.

When impressed current anodes are located too close to each other they restrict the flow of DC current to remote earth.

This is because of Ohms Law and Kirchhoffs laws relating to the distribution of energy as proved by Gibbs Free Energy

The groundbed must be designed so that it is possible to recognise the potential of the ground above each anode and a gap between anodes.

This has the advantage of being able to identify if a particular anode has failed, become disconnected from the ring main or needs attention.
