At present it would appear that international standards are in the hands of a small group of elite minds who may have a commercial interest in promoting their vested interests in the name of scientific cohesion.

Cathodic Protection Network has published many procedures that have been adopted globally and now seeks to facilitate the co-ordination of scientific, technical and engineering practices on an 'open source' basis.

This will provide a point of reference that will bridge the present gap between academia and the people who actually gather data and instal, commision and maintain cathodic protection and electronic control of corrosion.

There is a great deal of information that is ignored in a lot of the publications that are considered to be 'international standards' and a wealth of knowledge and understanding that is not easily available to students during basic training.
