THE PRESENT STATUS
Existing software simply displays voltages in a variety of ways.
There is no bench mark, datum or fixed value in volts that can be regarded as the level at which corrosion has stopped.
The reason for this is that the voltage measured is the difference between two variable potentials.
Not only can this be clearly demonstrated but the two major survey methods approved by NACE and ICorr make this clear.
All established corrosion engineers recognise what they call the errors caused by the 'IR Drop in the soil'.
An IR Drop is a voltage, why do they not call it a volts drop in the soil?
John Leeds is marketing a survey that he called Direct Current Voltage Gradient. Why did he not call it Direct Current Potential Gradient?
Computers cannot be programmed to analyse data that is not logical and therefore we must first define the data that we wish to analyse.

The software that I have looked at is based on spread sheets and the data acquisition software feeds voltages into a spreadsheet format.
As soon as you try to computerise the available data you will realise that we need a criterion that tells us exactly the equilibrium that corrosion stops.
Corrosion stops when there is no corrosion current. This was proved by Faraday a long time ago and has been supported by science.
The Alexander Cell makes it possible to measure the exact equilibrium between the metal and the ground at any location. We can therefore use the Alexander Cell to provide a bench mark or base line for or graphic displays.
We need to establish an international zero potential by convention in the same way that time has a single fixed reference on earth.
